Starting from June 2020 the Twin City Liner offers a special experience
. Every Friday and Saturday the modern catamaran will set off from the landing stage Schifffahrtszentrum am Handelskai and head upstream to Tulln. On Sundays and bank holidays starting from the landing stage Wien City/Schwedenplatz we offer a “little cruise”
with the fastest ship on the Danube River to Orth an der Donau
and afterwards Hainburg.
Orth an der Donau National Park – „a jewel of nature“
The water meadows around Orth an der Donau is the centrepiece of the Donau-Auen National Park and particularly recommendable for families. The „big Orth loop road“(yellow marking)
is 6,5 km long. Starting point is the internationally well-known fishrestaurant Humer’s Uferhaus.
Using the broad cycling and hiking path (suitable for prams, too) you will reach after approximately 3 kilometres Schloss Orth, situated on the fabulous “castle isle” where after an extensive revitalization the visitor centre of the Donau-Auen
National Park is situated, too. There you will get all the necessary information concerning your tour.
From there the path leads through the typical natural habitat of the various species of the Danube water
meadows with its untouched primeval forest, lush green meadows and quiet bayous which are home to feral freshwater turtles, dragon flies, frogs and kingfishers. After approximately 1,5 hours the yellow marking leads you back to the road and the cycling and hiking path before reaching Humer’s Uferhaus and the landing stage of the Twin City Liner.
Due to its excellent fish dishes the fishrestaurant Humer’s Uferhaus is widely known and situated within the Donau-Auen National Park
, directly at the banks of the Danube River. In fine weather conditions you can sit down in the restaurant’s garden directly at the river bank, the children’s playground, providing lots of fun for the smallest customers, is always in visual range.Coffee and cake directly at the Danube River.
Another recommendation: the landing stage of the Twin City Liner houses a small charming café with a picturesque roof terrace. Not only that you have an unforgettable view of the Danube River, you can watch the docking manoeuvres of the Twin City Liner, too.“Orther Islands“
– Danube River with its upstream sand cays – bring your bathing togs!
Starting directly at the landing stage, the „Treppelweg“
(the path parallel to the Danube River) takes you downstream to the “Orther Islands” with its sandy bays and gravel banks, on hot days a paradise for children.

Tulln – Austria’s „garden capital“
Already the route to Austria’s „garden capital“
provides a unique experience. At Greifenstein passengers can witness the locking of the Twin City Liner, a great opportunity for spectacular photos. Tulln’s city centre is just a few steps (5 minutes walk) away from the landing stage and invites its guests with numerous shops, the modern shopping centre „Rosenarcade“ directly at the main square, cafès, ice cream parlours, etc. to stay. During a walk through town you can visit the Minoritenkirche, Nibelungendenkmal
(Nibelung memorial) and the statue of Marcus Aurelius. And a short break with overnight stay is possible, too. The charming hotel „Nibelungenhof“ is right next to the landing stage and welcomes Twin City Liner passengers with a „welcome-drink“.
Garden enthusiasts can visit the „GARTEN TULLN“
, the „Natur im Garten“ world of experience, with ist 70 ecological maintained showgardens. Twin City Liner passengers will get on presentation of their Twin City Liner ticket a discount of € 1,50 on the adult ticket and € 3,00 on the family ticket.
Directly near the city centre, nestling between the “GARTEN TULLN” and Donaulände, visitors will find another “nature-idyll”. The Wasserpark Tulln
(Tulln Waterpark) as a natural finished water meadow forms an aware contrast to the created ecological oasis of the “garden capital” – an eldorado of nativeness, where you can unwind with e.g. an individual paddleboat- or canoe tour. Always a good idea, especial for families, a tour through the Danube water meadows easily accessible from the landing stage.

Sportsmanlike on the way: Ship and Bike
All three „Austria-Ticket“ destinations
can also be easily discovered with a bicycle because the entrainment of your bicycle is no problem on board the Twin City Liner. For e-bikes with even provide charging stations, of course free of charge. So you can go sporty to Tulln, Orth an der Donau or Hainburg
and return with the high-speed catamaran to Vienna – or in reverse direction.
It is easy to pedal the 37 km from Tulln to Vienna
along the Danube River. Recommendable stops en route are the fortress of Greifenstein and Klosterneuburg Abbey with its worldwide unique art treasures. And if your bicycle is equipped with a pannier you can buy a bottle or two of wine in the wine shop of Austria’s oldest wine estate.
It is only 21 km from Vienna to Orth an der Donau
respectively 45 km from Vienna to Hainburg. Starting point is in both cases the Wiener Donauinsel and the cycling path “Velo 6”. Depending on your shape
(or e-bike) cyclists need for the trip to Orth an der Donau between one and two hours, to Hainburg between two and four hours. On the way to Hainburg you are crossing the Donau-Auen National Park and passing by the revitalized Schloss Orth (Orth Castle)
as well as Schloss Eckartsau (Eckartsau Castle). With its 2,5 km long wall, three preserved gates and 15 towers dating back to the 13th century Hainburg offers one of Europe’s oldest and best-preserved town fortifications. The beautiful Kulturfabrik is directly on the way and many restaurants and “Heurigen”
(Austrian wine tavern) invite you to stay. Vienna-Hainburg by bicycle is an inspiring experience as well as the return journey with the Twin City Liner.
